Ministry of Foreign Affairs Invites Dr. Michelle Limenta to Share Ideas on “Indonesia in the Midst of a Trade War”

On March 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs set up a World Trade Organization (WTO) forum inviting Dr. Michelle Limenta, Head of Universitas Pelita Harapan Center of International Trade and Investment (UPH CITI) Mr. Tri Purnajaya from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Mari Elka Pangestu, former Minister of Trade and currently from the World Bank Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships in Washington DC and Mr. Deny Kurnia from the Ministry of Commerce as speakers.

The speakers took turns providing their insight on the impact on Indonesia concerning the US-China trade war where the US increased tariffs on imports from China, and China increased tariffs on imports from the US in retaliation. Based on their expertise on domestic and international trade, the speakers shared their opinion on how Indonesia can benefit the situation, how Indonesia may be at a disadvantage and how Indonesia can best tackle the issues.
